NFL Scores 2009 - Week 3 - September 27, 2009

The NFL scores for week 3 of the 2009 season included a win that will go down in Detroit Lions history.  The 19 - 14 win over the Washington Redskins helped the Lions avoid their 20th straight regular season loss.  Now the Lions can exhale and focus on keeping their current one game winning streak going next week.
The Lions won today behind the strength of their running game as Kevin Smith ran for 101 yards on 16 carries.  Quarterback Matthew Stafford also had a strong game, throwing for 241 yards as he connected on 21 of 36 attempts.  On the other sidelines the Redskins must be questioning where they go from here.  Losing to a team that had lost nineteen straight has to be deflating as they drop to 1 - 2.  In a division where they are battling the Giants (who are already 3 - 0) they have to step it up and step it up quick before they find themselves too far behind in the division.
Today's NFL scores from week 3 also provided some last minute comebacks.  In Minnesota, Brett Favre heaved a 32 yard touchdown pass to Greg Lewis in the back of the end zone to steal a victory from the San Francisco 49ers with two seconds to play.  The Vikings go to 3 - 0 for the first time since 2003 while they prevent the 49ers from going 3 - 0.
The same thing happened in Cincinnati as the Bengals went on a late fourth quarter scoring drive to knock off the Pittsburgh Steelers, 23 - 20.  Carson Palmer connected with Andre Palmer with 14 seconds to go put the Bengals up for the first time in the game.  The Bengals found themselves down 20 - 9 in the fourth quarter but refused to go away.  They pulled to with in five points with a touchdown 9:14 to go in the fourth and then got the ball again with 5:14 with the score 20 - 15.  From there Palmer led his team on a five minute 71 yard drive for the game winning touchdown.  The Bengals climb to 2 - 1 while the defending champion Steelers drop to 1 - 2.
In New York the Jets continued to roll as they beat the Titans to remain undefeated. The New England Patriots didn't let the Jets get too far ahead in the AFC East division as they were able to take care of the Atlanta Falcons at home to go to 2 - 1.
